If you’re thinking about trying therapy but not sure how it works online — or whether it’ll feel awkward or impersonal — you’re not alone. A lot of people are surprised by how natural it actually feels once you get started. And for many of our clients, doing therapy from home has become their preferred way to meet.
So… how does online therapy work?
In short, it’s a lot like in-person therapy — just without the traffic or parking. You still meet one-on-one (or with your partner) with your therapist for regular sessions. The only difference is that you’re doing it over secure video from wherever you happen to be: your couch, your car, your office, your bedroom. We’ve seen it all.
We use a simple, confidential video platform that works kind of like Zoom — just click a link and you’re in. No tech wizardry required.
Everything else stays the same: sessions are private, personalized, and focused on the things that matter to you.
Some perks people really appreciate
Here’s what we hear a lot from clients who’ve switched to online therapy:
- “It’s easier to fit into my day.”
- “I don’t feel rushed or frazzled by the time I show up.”
- “It’s nice not having to arrange childcare or take time off work.”
- “I actually feel more comfortable talking from home.”
We’ve had people take calls from parked cars, hotel rooms, trailheads, home offices, and laundry rooms. Therapy doesn’t have to be polished or perfect — it just has to be honest. And we’re here for all of it.
Does it still work?
Absolutely. For some people, online therapy actually makes it easier to open up. You’re in your own space, wearing your own clothes, maybe even holding a cup of tea. That comfort can help lower some of the emotional defenses that show up in a traditional office setting.
We offer online therapy for individuals, couples, and even therapy groups for couples, and the work is just as powerful — sometimes even more so — when done virtually.
